Liquid Light

Op̄tr and their Haro creations are composed of an exotic matter which exhibits both the properties of a wave and particle simultaneously; similar to light. Yet despite being made of a radically different substance, the signal distribution and coordinates are exactly identical to organic biochemistry; the structure of the “molecules” into which the “atoms” of particle-wave matter, composing their tissues are arranged into a pattern nearly identical to human biomolecules. 

This particle-wave matter is composed of 'liquid light,' light which has been given self-attraction and mass by entanglement to matter; similar to hard light; liquid light isn't a projection though, but a form of exotic matter; it can interact with itself and other matter without needing a complex program and projector.

Formed by the copolymerization of photon partials; which occurs very rarely in nature under extreme conditions; on the volcanic world of Ranoch; their occurrence led to self replicating chain reactions between trace chemicals and liquid light; creating liquid light polymers and eventually lifeforms.

The structures and forms created by this exotic matter are stable while remaining malleable; this flexibility and ability to mimic normal forms of matter is what makes Op̄tr biology possible and what gives them their super-scientific biophysical properties. This matter is stable unless subjected to lots of energy; either added in or taken out, but its tissues rot and decay far quicker than chemical matter.

As a light condensate, an Optr’s fluctlight directly controls their body; giving them subtlety that humans don’t have; not needing reflexes to compensate for a lag in conscious perceptions and being able to coordinate much more agile and acrobatic bodies.

A waveform analysis will reveal a sample of liquid light's inherent wave pattern, which can act as a genetic test; and can be used to classify samples of liquid light based on the measurement of its wavelength. A form of bose-condensate; Liquid light cell structures regenerate easily when supplied with more exotic matter; extending their lifespan by more than an order of magnitude; but organisms are prone to dying from injury.

Because it displays wave-properties at the macroscale, liquid light is a kind of bose-einstein condensate, displaying quantum effects at the macroscale; an energy condensate; this is the origin of the strange bubbling flesh associated with the Op̄tr’s healing and shapeshifting.

Artificial Evolution Laboratory

The Artificial Evolution Laboratory; a UN agency tasked with regulating ‘artificial evolution’ or genomic and cybernetic technologies; ostensibly for the protection of mankind. The AEL is how Nerv released “human limitation theory” in promotion of transhumanism; the results were not desirable; being seen as a manifesto on human chop shops and the reduction of human dignity to that of a machine.

The AEL produced the first Eva Units in secret; hundreds of failed prototypes between 2003 and 2005, the only successful one was not made functional until 2010. When Seele collapsed and their funding was cut off, AEL branches were absorbed by local governments and thus while the AEL became defunct, Eva technology became widespread.

The Artificial Evolution Laboratory, under the UN was secretly behind the research and creation of the Evas, and development of the piloting technology which circumvents human inability to control the devices the way the Op̄tr can, as well as the power systems which circumvent humanities inability to create organic antimatter.

Rachel

Rahcel is a small town on the Bannon Sea coast, near the Ceres sea. Surrounded by forests, crops, rolling hillsides; Rachel was built around a coal mine, originally with 1,289 people in 562 households; as the population was forced into all new areas as a result of the war, the town began to grow, many people couldn’t afford new housing, and so built affordable tiny homes instead; basic architecture made from thin metal and wood, grew chaotically around the edges and empty lots of the town.

Eventually, as shipments by hovering cargo ship began coming in, urban planning got better; actual districts of tiny homes made from cargo containers or prefabricated parts; with compacted dirt roads between them, as the town grew to its present size. The youth find the town to be boring and in the middle of nowhere, though some take pride in how peaceful and relaxing their town is amid rolling pastures, and forests. Disaffected youth form color gangs to find adventure and have fun; spending the day fighting and exploring the area, composed of young adults from 17 to 30.

Many homes are equipped with broadband antennas and solar panels. The town is sustained by factory farming; but isn’t self-sufficient, most of the farmland was only recently tented under greenhouses and lit 24/7/365 by energy collected from giant skyscraper sized light condensing blocks; which use a curved wall of rotating mirrors on a rotating base to focus sunlight down onto a single cheap solar panel at the base.

Rusting mills dot the country roads through the area, but most of the town is within walking distance of anywhere else. The furbas river runs through the center of the town, and kids must cross the floodplain to get to high school up on the hill, the elementary and middle school is built out among the town. Schools are equipped with computers. The town has a small medical clinic with a single autodoctor.

Located in the mountains a few kilometers away from the nearest major city; Rachel is located near the Ceres coast, along the Bannon sea, in the northwest; part of the Russo-American Alliance. The town is within biking distance of a larger city, where many of the kids go for the sights and sounds, and, in another direction, the beach on the Bannon Coast; a popular spot for kids in summer. The town is sustained by drone deliveries and cellphone internet connections.

The town has a single large department store, a new multi-story store built in 2011, with a huge electronics department and food court on the roof; the old shopping district; a bunch of family owned businesses located along a winding road from the train station to the highway east of the river, have been hard hit, but has started to recover.

Half forests; farming, mostly factory farms lit by energy collected from the light condensing blocks, is a primary source of employment, alongside the service sector, with the many tent topped fields surrounding the town providing a large abundance of food. The purple skulls have taken over part of the food mart by the gas station to sell their merchandise; including plushies and clothes, art and photographs.

The Furbas river runs through the town, though in the tropics; Rachel’s climate is dominated by the cold waters of Bannon Sea, circulated down south from the arctic by the Ceres Sea; creating a warm mediterranean climate on the coast and a temperate mediterranean climate in the rolling foothills; located in the mountains; Rachel experiences hot and humid summers with strong heatwaves, and mild winters with rare snowfall.

Rachel has an average temperature of 51.3 degrees, with over four feet of rainfall a year, with September being the wettest month; with August being the hottest at 73 degrees and January the coldest at around 30. Tropical plants from the gulf of mexico have adapted themselves to the local warm mediterranean climate, with bright, exotic, and colorful looking flowers amid the grasslands and coniferous and deciduous forests.

The town experiences rain and fierce thunderstorms in September, and winters are cold to freezing with cloudy skies and bi-yearly or yearly blizzards in January; springs are warm and sunny, and fall is cool with clouds; fog is a common occurrence all throughout the year; especially coming before strong rains. Located on the equator; strong oceanic storms.

Trope - Giant Robots

For moving away from Eva, it's kinda ironic I have been able to use my worldbuilding to recreate Evangelion Technology.

Adam’s are the Op̄tr's prototype humans; 8 meter tall giant humanoids made from liquid light and powered by organic antimatter. Humans have cloned these Adams to create giant psychic cyborgs; just like in Evangelion; they aren’t the same in design though since 8 meters isn’t big enough to fit an entry plug.

These Evas; called so because their clones of Adam, either have a giant hump on their back, like a Knightmare in code geass; which houses an ejectable cockpit for the pilot; the Japanese version resembles Eva’s pilot seat; with a seat set back, the German version resembles a motorcycle. The American, Russian, and Chinese Evas instead have a huge elongated body armor, like an LFO from Eureka 7, to house a more conventional cockpit like you’d find in a fighter jet.

To pilot these; a pilot (a trained adult unlike Eva),  wears a skin tight pilot suit, which is equipped in various places with soul translator technology, along with an actual soul translator headset. These allow neural synchronization which lets the pilot move the craft as if it was their own body; there is a pain absorber though; just like VR games. The controls are actually for fine motor control. The seats and pilot suit itself are designed to dampen acceleration; the Japanese instead use a liquid breathing medium.

These are not weapons, at least ostensibly; their industrial works, working in mines or construction in place of many of the industrial vehicles we use today. The IPEA was created to regulate the use of Evangelion technology; its an extension of Seele, the last 17 Op̄tr who uploaded themselves into AIs during the Sumerian Age (being the Annunaki and Nephilm prior to this), who financed the Artificial Evolution Laboratory which produced the original Eva.

The IPEA outlines the consequences of being caught weaponizing Evas; relegating them to the special forces and black ops; since an outright ban would probably simply be ignored. These are weapons meant to be used against mankind; these were not made to fight some alien monsters, but as a special force in regular militaries. They are highly classified (To the point that even Seele cannot keep track of all of them since many of their conspirators are looking to overthrow them), because obviously normal people wouldn’t be okay with the idea of wars being fought by giant psychic alien hybrids.

Now we're on to the really cool part; the Arkbirds; these are Adams which have been modified to become giant 180 meter tall humanoids that are converted into giant airships like miniature Wunders from the Rebuild of Eva; with huge cetean heads (I actually modoled the look on some of the wunders concept art and the mass production evas from the EOE).

The Wunder was stolen by Matthew, and it hasn't been finished so its visibly a giant cyborg (visible multi-tone skin with cybernetic parts; and in places exposed skeletons and organs; like the skull and ribs in back), the others have a bigger wingspan (looking more like dragonflies than birds), and are fully fitted with armor. The Wunder was meant for germany; the other three for Russia, China, and the USA.

Evas aren't some huge trump card like in NEG; a skilled squad of normal people, properly equipped, and with good and flexible tactics, can take them down (just like with the Op̄tr haros, which is actually what an Adam is), even using medieval era weapons and armor. Evas are blunt force tools when it comes to psychic powers, unlike Op̄tr and their various specialized types of Haro. Without the piloting system, an Eva would be just as vulnerable to Op̄tr control as a Haro; with hard wired neural. Haros perform much of the hard labor needed to keep the Op̄tr's culture going.

The Broken Republic

Once spanning 50 states across the whole southern peninsula below the bannon sea and canada to the north, and extending all the way to the great lakes and gulf of mexico in the east. The Northeast is largely deserts; the southeast is bayus and swampland, bannon sea states are great plains, the northwest, just south of the bannon sea canada, are mountainous equatorial coniferous and deciduous forests, and see frequent rain and rarely snow from the mountains, while west and southwest are equatorial plains and swamps; great for farmland. All of the western USA is buffeted by oceanic storms, and the whole central USA is home to mountains, running along the center of the peninsula, down to the yucatan peninsula, up the northeast; which buffet much of the country with rain and snowstorms.

The United States of America was formed from 13 rebelling british colonies along the Gulf of Mexico and Spanish border in 1795; during the 19th century the United States began gobbling up all the Spanish, French, and British colonies on the continent until it reached the ceres and pacific oceans; buying the land with its powerful burgeoning economy; becoming rich off the ample farmland and natural abundance of the nation. Had the Great War, later known as the First World War, fought over American Expansion, not been won by the Germans, the United States would have surely gobbled up both Mexico and Canada.

As a result of the first world war, the United States found itself divided into the Republicans and Federalists in 1910; fighting a civil war ostensibly over states rights; wounds which would not ever fully heal. In 1965, Germany, under the control of the Nazis invaded and attempted to annex the land which had split away from germany during the economic crises of 1970s and 80s, invaded the United States; over 900 years prior, the Germans, teutonic knights, under the rule of the Holy Roman Empire, had occupied much of northeastern America and Southeastern Canada, but failed to conquer the natives.

After defeating the Nazis in the Second World War, the United States annexd Purssia, or Western Germany, as a state; though not before the Nazis used six nuclear weapons to try and prevent the allied D-day invasion by salting the invasion routes; killing 250,000 of their own people; many of them soldiers (for which the Nazis were tried at Nurenburg).

Millions of Americans were killed during the nuclear third world war, as long established borders and major centers of population were broken; as a result of the war people were forced into all new areas. Corruption; mob violence, corporate invasions of privacy, politicized justice, the unbelievable election and reelection of unpopular figures, weaponized federal agencies, all amid increasing scrutiny from regulators and abroad, all plagues America’s recovery from the third World War.

Wall-street rigged with insider trading, and politics through lobbying, alongside ponzi-schemes creating huge income inequality between ‘billionaires’ and the public, left America highly unstable. In 2015, several states in the northwest and east entered into a military alliance with Russia in order to deter the growing military industrial complex to the south and southwest; with a handful of bannon sea and northwest states playing the two off one another to maintain its independence as a buffer state.

Though the Russo-American Alliance styles itself as communist; the government is so corrupt and ineffectual it can barely perform the functions of a government; let alone police every business, distribute food and resources, and regulate the trade and movement of citizens; it can’t eve provide regular electricity or water, no mail, no internet or phone services, a breaking down public school system, a federalized police force which largely ignores rural areas except highways on state borders, and can only enforce a sales and income tax on the few businesses they approved of, with many independent people in rural areas working tax free.

For this reason; most homes in Rachel have solar panels, satellite antennas and hookups, there is a lot of drone traffic, water towers, and huge light condensing blocks. Rachel’s population actually tripled after the war, though most people; many children who grew up in the town and had to move out of there parents homes at some point, couldn't afford a regular home with inflation combined with stagnating wages; so they used their savings or got loans to build tiny homes, at first like shanties, thin wood and metal sheeting, placed at random, while newer developments are more orderly and made from prefabricated materials by the town itself, Sour Cream, Onion, and Cool Ranch live in one of these.

The mobs of anti-social manchildren that mierd the birth of the alliance have mostly disappeared; having to grow up and out of their high-schooler mentality, though most blame everyone else for their ideas failing or simply do not believe communism would do anything less than acknowledge their greatness by giving them free video game consoles at the expense of the working class. As of the 2030s, Russia realized things needed to change economically, and began trying to gain access to foreign markets, transitioning the alliance back to something closer to a free market, though still decades behind the rest of the world.

There are even protests against corruption in the Alliance, and people are not abused unless they get in the way of the political machine. Political corruption is virtually the only issue, driven by the competition of corporate, military, and bureaucratic interests, who make use of considerable and indiscriminate surveillance and espionage. Those who do not have useful skills; often those who remained in high school after 16 because they thought all they needed was an education, are forced to work on the factory farms or other menial labor; while the motivated usually drop out before 10th grade and go apprentice or enter the workforce.

The Southern and Southwestern states on the other hand, formed the American Empire, also known as Imperial Americana, this is the second of three successors to the old United States of America, it consists of the states that formed the American Republic, and controls the states considered to be in the American South and Southwest. After the occupation, the United States of America found itself fractured, the lingering political tensions that had been around since the nation began its decline in the 70s boiled over and the country found itself amidst a second civil war, ending in 2015.

The American Empire represents mostly the military industrial complex, formed when the majority of the defense industry took control of the southern states and became Imperial Americana, a right wing empire with a heavily antagonistic relationship with the Russo-American Alliance. The American Empire has been demonstrating its authority as a military state since the War, all while suffering from a collapsing economy, part of this is due to the reduction of Nuclear weapons as a deterrent now that almost every nation has them and with the Japanese Miracle, fallout is no longer a fear.

Although still a very important nation, America's superpower status has been giving way to the economic behemoths of Japan, Germany, and Brazil in recent years. As with all nations, its suffering from a faltering economy and a divided population, class and racial lines have divided the people into separate groups each struggling against one another, crime has risen to an all time high and the underfunded government can’t keep enough police on the streets to do anything about it, the major corporations have helped by stepping in with private law enforcement within the cities.

The only states that retained the old government of the United States of America were a handful of great northwest and Bannon Sea and great plains states, possessing little of the nations industrial base or population, the United States retained independence from Russo-America and the American Empire by playing them against each other and convincing them that it was better to allow the remnant to remain as a buffer state between the two great rivals.
